The Daishonin says that those who carry out the faith and practice of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo based on the belief that Myoho-renge-kyo is the fundamental Law that governs their own lives and the seed for attaining Buddhahood are themselves Buddhas. There is no substantial difference between the common mortal and the Buddha as human beings. The difference lies in their minds, in their actions. What we must remember is the Daishonin’s exhortation to believe that our life is an entity of Myoho-renge-kyo. We mustn’t forget his admonition that if we seek enlightenment outside ourselves, we are practicing not the Mystic Law but some inferior teaching. The benefit of Myoho-renge blossoms in such firm faith. Single-minded faith in Myoho-renge-kyo manifests as the life-state of Buddhahood. Continuing faith in the Mystic Law is itself the attainment of Buddhahood.
