Life is a constant battle against hardships and “challenges”! Let’s try to find a senior in faith, someone whom we can talk to about anything. When we chant and take action together, the road ahead definitely opens up!
Translation of "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun, based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, with universal value and application
To all of our friends who are starting a new life in a new environment: the first great step towards building bonds of trust is to give a warm and heartfelt greeting. By initiating sincere exchanges of heartfelt communication with others may you become the very sun that lights up your environment! We are all extremely grateful to those of you who have taken on the responsibility of helping to nurture and look after our precious future division members, Soka's successors for the future! Taking on this role despite being subsequently many times busier than the rest of us, I hope that you shine as champions wherever you are and enjoy ten thousand times more joy and good fortune! The Daishonin states, "You need not seek far for an example." Let’s all take the initiative in leading by example as “leaders of kosen-rufu!” When we do so, genuine unity and the momentum for our advancement is born. It is said, "Take the initiative, and you will win." How speedily we take action determines our victories. Now, towards the start of a new school/fiscal year, let’s unleash the same kind of power similar to that of a lion’s ferocity by chanting daimoku focused on specific goals and concrete targets. If you constantly think “Ah, I’ll do it some day,” that “some day” will never ever come! Instead, those who have the type of determination of “OK! Let’s try challenging it right now!” are the type of people who are certain to open up a great path towards victory and glory. Ah spring is here, the golden season for dialogue! While chanting for our friend’s happiness, let’s share Nichiren Buddhism, and its philosophy, with them brimming with enthusiasm and passion! Without sparing our voices, let’s carry out the practice of propagating this Buddhism to the full extent of our abilities! As Nichiren Buddhism teaches the principle of “cherry, plum, peach and damson,” there is no need to compare ourselves with somebody else. Rather than trying to follow what others do and achieve a goal in haste, it’s more important to make an effort to progress diligently and steadily in our own unique way! Through striving to live true to ourselves, let’s bring to blossom the flowers of our own missions in our own lives! First and foremost let’s make the utmost effort to immediately go to the place where members are encountering the greatest difficulty or problems. Let’s also try our very best to promptly offer wholehearted encouragement to anyone who is in the very midst of great suffering! It’s such swift thoughtful caring action that is the wellspring of people’s trust! To the members of our Sun and Courage Groups (senior SGI men’s division members) who are brimming with wisdom from a lifetime of having a seeking mind, we are all deeply grateful for your unceasing efforts for the sake of kosen-rufu! With the spirit of now more than ever, let’s together create a golden history of our lives! |
