The Daishonin teaches us, "It is the heart that is important." Immeasurable benefit and good fortune shine on those who chant daimoku with appreciation and take action with gratitude. Happily and enthusiastically, let's devote ourselves to achieving kosen-rufu creating happiness for both ourselves and others!
Translation of "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun, based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, with universal value and application
When it's time to embark upon a new endeavour, let's remember that the very first step in winning the trust of people around us, is the sincere attitude and behaviour with which we interact with them. Let’s become that reliable and indispensable presence wherever our mission lies. Let’s just not “feel” appreciation, let’s actually verbally express our appreciation (with such words as)... "Thank you for everything you do.” “It really is thanks to you.” Let’s really put our heart into it! Learning is a light and knowledge is power. As long as we are willing to continue to learn, we’ll never face deadlock. Those who are eager and passionate to learn shine with hope and happiness. It’s when we are on a busy schedule that we need to take good care of ourselves by eating nutritional balanced meals and getting enough sleep! With keeping our good health and safety as our top priority, let’s advance vibrantly and cheerfully! Buddhism is all about the two existences of present and future. What's important is to always, by chanting daimoku, start anew right from this moment, right where we are. Today again, let’s challenge the “drama” of our human revolution, in the very best of spirits. It’s our serious single-minded chanting in the morning that enables us to bring forth the strong life force for the day. Let’s become champions of humanity with warm enriched hearts that can find hope and joy even in our normal daily situations! Let’s make the most of each opportunity we get to meet someone. When we open up to them, they naturally will begin to open up to us. Brimming with vibrant energetic life force, let’s send a fresh spring breeze of friendship towards the people around us! To my friends who are going through hardships or challenges, remember that we have this great faith and practice to support us. The trials of a “winter,” without fail, will turn into a glorious “spring”! Now is the time when we need to chant daimoku with great conviction! The Gosho states: “(as for the matter of becoming a Buddha,) ordinary people keep in mind the word ‘earnest resolve’ and thereby become Buddhas.” Those with an indomitable spirit to strive in earnest, to constantly challenge themselves, are the ones for whom the path to a glorious future is most certain to open up. Be a person who never gives up, and who finally wins! |
