Let's wholeheartedly praise all those members who so earnestly dedicate themselves to their local community! Buddhism manifests itself in society. By making the utmost effort to be good citizens in daily life, let’s develop the bond of trust with as many people as we can!
Translation of "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun, based on President Ikeda's recent guidance with universal value and application
Try not to be flustered or controlled by immediate happenings. The Daishonin teaches us, "Buddhahood lies in continuing faith."* To continue our faith and practice is indeed what enables us to attain absolute happiness. Society is a place of unceasing change. Let's lead the times with fresh, new ideas, flexible, adaptive planning, and bold, courageous actions! Let's put our very best into preparing for meetings so that all who attend can leave feeling “Right, from here on I am going to give it my best shot!” From our joyful gatherings emerges an unstoppable momentum for victory! We bow in deep respect to all of our members who are wholeheartedly striving to promote our organisational newspapers - the newspapers of the people. With the power of print and imagery let’s send out rays of hope into society! What opens the way to friendship is our courageous words. By having heart-to-heart dialogue, let’s help our friends to become fellow Bodhisattvas of the Earth. And together, let’s advance along the highway to happiness! First, let us as leaders challenge ourselves to break out of our shells. The waves of courage and joy that are created by using our initiative and setting an example to others naturally inspire and motivate our fellow members. Daimoku chanted for our friends with a sincere heart and actions that are taken with honest concern for them definitely reach their hearts. "I want to encourage that person somehow." "I really want this friend to become happy." With such a faithful heart and unwavering sincerity, let’s develop trustworthy relations with as many people as we can! Buddhism teaches the principle of "cherry, plum, peach or apricot blossom". Each and every one of us has a unique mission that only we ourselves can fulfil. On the stage of our very own lives, let's perform victorious dramas as celebrated actors and actresses! Let’s play the leading role with the never give up spirit! Real experiences in our practice speak far louder than a million words of theory. Let’s enthusiastically talk about the joy and conviction we have experienced from practicing this Buddhism! That is how to have a serious impact! |
