You have an “evil ruler” possessing absolute power acting in collusion with “erroneous priests” who invoke their religious authority, both engaging in the base tactic of making false accusations. Such an evil alliance of power and religious authority will invariably focus its attacks on a person of justice.
The Daishonin says that facing great persecution arising from such a collusive union presents one with the opportunity to become a Buddha. From a secular standpoint, to be attacked by the three powerful enemies is to confront the most fearful of circumstances. The path for opening the condition of Buddhahood within, however, lies in courageously standing up to such difficulties without retreating a single step. This is the meaning of the principles that “obstacles lead to enlightenment” and “persecutions lead to attaining Buddhahood.”
