The true meaning of attaining enlightenment is beyond the realm of ordinary wisdom. For example, when we are facing painful difficulties, it is next to impossible to believe that we will be able to attain enlightenment. On the other hand, when basking in momentary peace and comfort, Buddhahood or enlightenment seems unnecessary. In both times of suffering and times of ease, we tend to lose our aspiration to attain Buddhahood.
