His spirit was to always speak out for justice in the name of protecting the people. This must have also been the spirit resonating in the Daishonin’s life. In “The Rationale for Writing ‘On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land,’” the Daishonin states, “I say all this solely for the sake of the nation, for the sake of the Law, for the sake of others, not for my own sake” (WND, 164). He did not seek personal status or honor. The Daishonin put his life on the line to speak out on behalf of society, the Law and the people.
